Lauren Evans

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

I’m a queer, neurodivergent, trauma-informed therapist who approaches my clients with authenticity, empathy, curiosity and respect for who you are and what brings you into therapy. It’s important to me that therapy is a place where the whole of who you are is accepted and welcomed without shame or judgment. After all, all the pieces of our stories make up who we are in our present moment - all of what makes you “you” belongs in the therapy room. I pull from several different therapeutic modalities and theories to help tailor therapy to your needs - including narrative therapy, attachment theory, and parts work. And if it’s your thing, I even have Enneagram training.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

I firmly believe that the foundation of therapeutic healing is created by the sense of safety, trust, and connection that is formed between therapist and client. Without that foundation in place, even the best therapy is ineffective. This means I practice from a place of collaboration - you are the expert on your life experiences and I am here to come alongside you, help you sort through all your parts, and help you discover patterns or blocks preventing you from living more fully into who you want to be.

Therapy is all about the relationship and the freedom to explore one’s self that is only possible when we feel safe and connected. I will meet you wherever you’re at with genuine care, humor, insight, and the occasional pop culture reference.

NEURODIVERGENCE-INFORMED

Being late-diagnosed neurodivergent myself, I really love working with those who fall under the neurodivergence umbrella - especially late-diagnosed ADHD and autism. Those who grow up not knowing they’re neurodivergent are often given inaccurate labels that we then internalize - labels like “lazy,” “irresponsible,” “messy,” “intense,” “dramatic,” or “too much”. We get told to “just try harder” by those who don’t understand why our experience of the world is overwhelming, exhausting, or just plain different than those around us. Our whole world opens up when we start seeing and celebrating ourselves for who we are and stop feeling terrible for not fitting into who the world told us we should be.

LGBTQIA2S+, SEX-POSITIVITY, KINK AND POLY-AFFIRMING

As an sex therapist in training, I love working with issues of sex, sexual identity, and sexual expression - especially with those who are learning how to engage (or re-engage) with their sexuality for the first time after leaving Purity Culture.

The impact of living in a society that is in the infancy of its sexual reclamation has left many with a sense of uneasiness or secrecy around their sexual expression, which is often even more intense for those who grew up in high-control religious environments. As a result, we can feel like all things to do with sex, sexuality, gender identity, non-traditional sexual expression, or non-monogamy are strictly taboo. I want to help you kick down those doors and see more of what’s inside, to embrace and express your wider sexuality with joy and delight.

INTERESTS

In my down time, you can find me hunkered down under a fuzzy blanket with a good book, working on the hobby du jour (currently it’s crochet, but a couple months ago it was polymer clay!), or engaged with friends in conversations that are both deeply philosophical and also filled with utter nonsense. I am the owner of an excessive and extensive tea collection, am the proud member of several different television fandoms, and am companioned by two sweet but ridiculously uncoordinated cats, Owen and Penny Lane.
